Start from anywhere
Three ways into a tasting session.
Pick whichever fits the moment. The experience is identical either way.
From your cellar
Open any bottle in your cellar and tap "Start tasting". SomeWine loads the profile for that exact wine, no scanning needed.
Scan a label
Point your camera at the label on any bottle. SomeWine identifies it in a second and drops you straight into the session.
From the wine detail page
Browsing a wine and ready to open it? Tap the "Tasting" button on the detail page. The session starts with the full profile already loaded.
Five finds per bottle
Sight. Smell. Smell. Taste. Taste.
For each find, choose from four options and get instant feedback with the science behind it.
Colour & Depth
SightTilt the glass at 45 degrees against a white background. The colour reveals the grape variety and age. Depth shows extract and concentration.
Primary Fruit
SmellOne gentle swirl, then a deep inhale. Primary fruit aromas come directly from the grape variety. Dark berries, stone fruit, citrus. Each grape has its own signature.
Oak & Complexity
SmellSwirl again and look past the fruit. Oak ageing adds vanilla, spice, and cedar. Terroir adds earth, mineral, or floral notes depending on where the grapes grew.
Tannin
TasteSip and hold for 5 seconds, then rub your tongue along your gums. Tannin causes that drying, gripping sensation. Smooth, medium, firm, or grippy?
Length & Finish
TasteTake a final sip and count how long the flavours linger after you swallow. Short, medium, or long? A long finish is one of the key signs of a great wine.
XP and levels
Every bottle earns your next level.
Finish a tasting and earn XP. Hit a perfect score and earn bonus XP. Taste every day and keep your streak alive. Work through 10 levels from Curious Sipper to Grand Sommelier.
